Friends Make Life a Little Sweeter

A little off the subject of Africa but something that I wanted to write about due to recent events so enjoy!

So I know this girl, her name is Christina. It's no big deal or anything but she is kind of my best friend...

I meet Christina the summer of my 5th grade year. My family was just getting settled into Grace when I went to VBS. That's when I first met the wild child. She was bubbly, loud, friendly, and had the biggest smile on her face. I on the other hand was shy and quiet, not wanting to draw attention to myself. I don't think we could have been more opposite but somehow it worked for us. By the end of the night we had decided a sleepover was necessary but I had no clothes with me and both of our parents were already there to pick us up. Thats when Christina announced she "always carries a sleepover bag, just in case." That was the beginning of our unlikely, but beautiful, friendship.

It has been 10 years since that fateful night. Lots of laughs, tears, sleepovers, fights, and adventures have been had in between and through it all we have managed to grow closer, allowing our friendship to grow stronger. We have been through so much together it's hard to believe sometimes. It has not always been easy, but it has always been worth it.

Recently I was looking through old pictures and letters and came across this...

The word “best friend” means so much when you’re younger. I have called you my best friend since the year we meet but as we’ve gotten older I feel as though we have surpassed the definition of “best friends”. I would call us sisters.

You are a beautiful, sweet, loving, kind, forgiving and compassionate woman and every year become more and more so. Even though I am younger I still have gotten to watch you grow up into an even better version of the person I met nine plus years ago. I feel so blessed to have you meet you. Besides God and my family, you have been the most important person to ever come into my life. You have forever changed me. I love you with all my heart. No matter what trails and bumps in the raod we have faced and will face, I am always going to be there for you. Whether you need a shoulder to cry on, someone to laugh with, someone to talk to, or someone to bail you out of jail, I will be there.

I believe God designed us perfectly and for a purpose. And yes, a place to live, clothes, water and food are necessary to survive in this world but the most important thing we can fill our lives with are people. People in which we love, cry, laugh and share our lives with. You are one the very few I have the pleasure of doing that with. I am so glad God created you the way you are. Without you I don’t know where I would be in life right now. We have shared so much together, gone through so much, but I wouldn’t take a single second back, even the fights. You are an amazing person and I am so blessed to call you my sister.

God has given me a beautiful gift in my friendship with Christina. I could not be more thankful for her presence in my life. I still and always will consider Christina my sister. Life may take us down different paths, we may loose our way occasionally, but we will support, encourage and love each other through it all. I know that in the end we will always be there for each because she is a part of my family.

*pause my music at the bottom*
*From Christina: An explanation may be necessary but you know*

p.s. Not to brag or anything but Christina is an incredibly talented photographer. I am so proud of how far she has come. She is just starting to book photography sessions so you should check out her site here!

Thanks, Faith and Hope Day

Recently in my devotions I stumbled upon these verses:

Collossians 4:16, 17 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, as as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Application: To increase your thankfulness, take an inventory of all you have (including your relationships, memories, abilities, and family, as well as material possessions). Use the inventory for prayers of gratitude. On Sunday, before worship, quit rushing around; instead, take time to reflect on reasons for thanks. Declare Sunday as your "thanks, faith and hope" day. Celebrate God's goodness to you, and ask in prayer for all your needs for the week ahead.

I have seen/read other blogs that have a "Thankful Day" and always liked the idea but never really felt motivated to declare a day myself; that is until I read the verses and application above. So I would like to formally declare Sunday my "Thankful Day".

Fun Fact: I am really OCD about certain things. I can not stand it when thing are not in 5's. More specifically volume (the T.V., radio etc.) as well as lists. Sometime I push myself and have the volume at 12 or something crazy like that, but it only last a few seconds.

1. Alison. We will be spending a year together in Rwanda and I can not thank God enough for planing Alison and I to be there together.
2. Chocolate chip cookies. Right out of the oven they make me incredibly happy and thankful.
3. My job. I love that I get to play with two little girls all day, five days a week. The family that I work with has been like my second family and I am so thankful for them.
4. My Mom. She is so supportive, loving, funny, wise and easy to talk to. I love my Mom, who she is as a woman and as a mother and I couldn't be more thankful.
5. For the speed-bumps I have faced getting back to Rwanda. There haven't been many but there have been a couple. Through each one Christ has strengthened me and my relationship with Him. My patience and trust are greater. For that I am thankful.

Psalm 35:18 I will give you thanks in the great assembly; among throngs of people I will praise you.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

Psalm 136:1-4 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. Give thanks to the God of gods. Give thanks to the Lord of lords; to him who alone does great wonders.

1 Chronicles 16:8 Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done.

Ephesians 5:20 Giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Cloud Update!

Do you guys remember me talking about a sweet young man named Cloud? If you need to remind yourself go here to the last paragraph. I wrote that I was going to find away to stay in contact with Cloud. Well, Karen from the Point Foundation really went out of her way and I can't thank her enough. I now have a way to contact him, he has the pictures I took of him and I also was given an updated picture. Just look at him now!

In just a couple of month it looks like he has already grown up so much. I was told that he borrowed this red sweater to look smart for me. After reading that I immediately wanted to hop on a plane to go see him. He is so smart and he is loved beyond measures, not just by me, but by a God who created Him. God knew Cloud before he was born (Jeremiah 1:5) God made Cloud in His image. (Geniuses 1:27) God sent His only son for Cloud (John 3:16) God has plans for Cloud (Jeremiah 29:11) and he will not leave Him (Hebrews 13:5, John 14:18) While I can not be hop on that plane right this second I know God is with Him, I take comfort in this.
I can not wait to begin forming a relationship with Cloud. Telling him my what my favorite animal is, reading about his favorite sport, talking about superstars, telling him my story, reading his, and telling him how much I love him, but that there is a God who loves him more than I, or anyone else, ever could.
